St. Landry Crime Stoppers needs help locating 3 wanted sex offenders

St. Landry Crime Stoppers is asking the public’s help to locate three sex offenders. They are: — Antonio Rivera Jr., 39, a Hispanic Latino male, with a last known address of 928 Hwy. 31 in Arnaudville. He is wanted for failure to register and notify as a sex offender or child predator.

Louisiana launches new 988 suicide and crisis lifeline

The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has launched the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline — the new 3-digit number that replaces the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to make it easier for people to receive assistance during a mental health crisis.

$4.5M wastewater treatment facility to foster south Opelousas growth

The Central St. Landry Economic Development District (CSLEDD), in partnership with local and state officials, honored the completion of a newly constructed $4.5 million state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility in Opelousas with a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 15.

Sheriff: Undercover investigation nets 50 arrests

A four-month undercover investigation called Project Safe Neighborhoods resulted 50 arrests, the seizure of 30 guns, two vehicles and illegal drugs valued at over $100,000, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz. The operation spanned April 6 to July 9, he stated.

Eunice candidates arrive for qualifying

Qualifying continues through Friday at the Delta Grand Building, 120 S. Market St., Opelousas, for the Nov. 8 election that includes City of Eunice positions. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday.

State’s last living Pearl Harbor survivor celebrates 99th birthday

The same month the Hollywoodland sign went up in Los Angeles, U.S. Navy veteran Joe Richard, Louisiana’s last living Pearl Harbor survivor, was delivered by a midwife at his parent’s home on the outskirts of Church Point. The year was 1923.
