How to help your  plants survive a drought

After last year’s record rainfall, it’s hard to believe that this year we are barely getting any rain at all. Watering my poor, wilted plants this morning, I recalled that I did not have to pull out my garden hose last year. Looking back at historical weather data, this is not abnormal.

Play opens Thursday at Eunice Players’ Theater

After weeks of rehearsal, the cast and crew of “Charlotte’s Web” at Eunice Players’ Theatre are ready for their opening night performance at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Price of July 4th cookout costing more than last year

If you plan on holding a July 4 cookout this weekend, expect to pay a lot more than what you paid for last year’s meal. According to the American Farm Bureau Federation marketbasket survey, the overall cost for the Independence Day cookout is up 17%, or about $10 from last year.

Inflation has our political leaders trapped

Inflation is now at a 40-year high of 8.6%, with energy and food cost leading the way. To stop inflation monetary policy requires a nominal interest rate 2% higher than the inflation rate, such as 10.6% — yet the Federal Reserve has only raised its policy rate to 1.6 percent.
