Fontenot family creates scholarship at LSUE

Louisiana State University at Eunice has created the Leonard G. Fontenot Family Scholarship, it was announced on the LSU Eunice campus on Thursday. The endowed scholarship will focus on Workforce Development in engineering.

Missing WWII soldier comes home

An Army private lost 79 years ago in the World War II battle on Guadalcanal is returning home for burial in Washington. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced Army Pvt. Hillary Soileau, 23, of Whiteville, killed during World War II, was accounted for Dec. 8, 2020.

Sheriff announces 2nd major operation

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz announced a second major operation to targeting criminal activity. A four-month undercover investigation resulted in 34 arrests, the seizure of 36 guns, four vehicles, and illegal drugs valued at $75,000, he stated in a news release on May 10.

Suspect in Eunice shooting sought

St. Landry Crime Stoppers and Eunice Police need help in locating a suspect wanted on attempted murder charges.  On May 4, just after 10 p.m., Eunice Police responded to a call of someone being shot in the 200 block of Acadia Street.
