Eagle Scout project refurbishes Sherburne WMA nature trail

Corbin Marks of Opelousas recently completed his Eagle Scout project, refurbishing the nature trail at Sherburne Wildlife Management Area (WMA) near his hometown of Opelousas. Marks is with Boy Scout Troop 51.

Ukrainian refugees are detained in Basile

(Editor’s Note: Multiple attempts to contact the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center in Basile have gone unanswered.) A Donald Trump-era immigration policy, Title 42, has caused Ukrainian refugees to be detained in ICE detention centers, including South Louisiana ICE Processing Center in Basile.

Clovis Crawfish’s 61st birthday party planned

The Clovis Crawfish children’s book series is to be celebrated in a 61st birthday party from 1 to 3 p.m. April 9 at The Eunice Depot Museum, 220 S. C.C. Duson St., Eunice. Special guest will be Julie Fontenot Landry, daughter of Clovis’s creator, Mary Alice Fontenot.

Liberty annex transfer to city clears legislative hurdle

The transfer of the Liberty Theatre annex ownership from the National Park Service to the City of Eunice passed the Senate on Thursday. “With a proper restoration, this special landmark will be enjoyed for generations to come,” U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson said.
