The St. Landry Parish School Board on a 6-5 vote rejected using $15 million in COVID-19 -related funding to renovate Port Barre and Palmetto elementary schools. The March 26 election where the school district has three tax propositions on the ballot played into the debate over the funding.

Mamou Police were notified at 7:46 p.m. Monday by officers working a detail in the downtown area that there were shots fired in the 200 block of 6th Street. Responding officers arrived to the area and located a white male victim lying in the road with multiple gunshot wounds.

A blue sky with afternoon temperatures in the 70s blessed the Eunice Mardi Gras. “Today is just picture perfect. Look at the people having fun,” said Mayor Scott Fontenot as he looked over the crowd on 2nd Street at about 2 p.m. “It is clean,” he said of the street.
