Workforce declined in Dec., jobless rates fell

The Tri-Parish workforce in December 2021 was down compared to December 2020, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The report also found Tri-Parish unemployment rates were down in December compared to a year ago.

Mardi Gras cleanup planned

Volunteers are needed for a targeted cleanup before Eunice’s Mardi Gras. Donna Baltakis, director of Keep Eunice Beautiful, said no registration is needed. Volunteers only need to show up at the City Hall beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 19 to participate. The cleanup will last until 11 a.m.

Mardi Gras returning to 2nd Street

After a one-year hiatus due to Covid, the Eunice Mardi Gras celebration is returning to 2nd Street with a Friday through Mardi Gras lineup of live music, food and the Le Vieux Mardi Gras de Cajun run.

Fire claims house

Firefighters from Acadia Parish Fire District 4 responded and reported to a house fire at 3:26 p.m. Friday at 162 Dan Drive located in Acadia Parish. Other firefighters responding to the fire included those from Richard Iota, Branch and Fire District 6.
