United Way of Acadiana offering free tax prep for qualifying families

The VITA program and United Way of Acadiana are offering IRS-certified tax preparers at several sites. If you work and have household income below $57,000 in 2021, you may be eligible for free tax preparation services and a quick refund.

Edwards unveils budget, calls for significant investments in education and infrastructure

With the state flush with cash, Gov. John Bel Edwards unveiled a proposed budget Monday that includes more than $1.1 billion in infrastructure spending and investments in education at all levels.

Louisiana employment consistently gaining

Preliminary data for December 2021 released Tuesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows Louisiana’s seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment estimate to be 1,874,200 jobs. This is a gain of 7,100 jobs from the revised November 2021 estimate of 1,867,100.

A 28-year-old Church Point man arrested earlier this month is linked to thefts and burglaries in the Lewisburg and Church Point area, according to a news release from St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
