Early childhood education scores high

Legislature addresses reading skills

Literacy training is now required for kindergarten through third grade teachers of reading, math, science and social studies.
The requirement, which includes principals and assistant principals, was passed in the 2021 regular session.

Liberty legislation passes committee

U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson, R-Benton, announced that the House Natural Resources Committee’s passed the Save the Liberty Theatre Act — his legislation to give the City of Eunice full ownership of the Liberty Theatre and its annex, so the community can move forward with its restoration efforts.

Fire District 6 puts 2 new trucks into service

Fire District 6, which serves about 8,000 people in a 100-mile area outside Eunice, put two fire trucks into service last week, according to its fire chief, Chaise Brown.
The trucks are both 3,000-gallon tanker-pumper trucks.
