St. Landry Parish crash claims the life of unrestrained 23-year-old man

A single-vehicle crash on La. 742 near Odom Avenue in St. Landry Parish took the life of 23-year-old Jonathon Paul Whaley of Port Barre, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police Troop I The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred at about 10:15 p.m.

Ex-officer convicted of molestation of a juvenile

Damon Broussard, a former officer with the Crowley and Lake Arthur police departments, has been convicted of molesting a juvenile under the age of 13. The unanimous verdict was handed down after a swift trial before District Judge Marilyn Castle.

Voting continues Saturday on constitutional amendments

Voting continues from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in election to decide on four state constitutional amendments. In early voting, 1,828 votes were cast in St. Landry Parish. In the state, there were 142,015 votes cast. The deadline for registrar to receive mail ballots is at 4:30 p.m.
