Acadia’s mosquito control contractor seemingly got a thumbs-up from the police jury Tuesday night.
During a special meeting preceding the regularly scheduled committee meetings, jurors voted unanimously, with Chuck Broussard absent, to “leave things like they are” in regard to the agreement with Mosquito Control Contractors, Inc.
The jury’s contract with MCCI stipulates that the jury give a “90-day written notice” if it intends to not renew the mosquito control contract.
That’s why Jury President David Savoy decided to call the special meeting Tuesday night, he explained.
The lone agenda item was to “authorized the president to sign a 90-day written notice informing (MCCI) that the extension and addendum to the original contract shall not be renewed beyond June 12, 2017.”
“This was just to give us the option,” Savoy said. “If we want to exercise the option, good; if we want to leave everything as it is, good.
“It gives us the option — bid, don’t bid, change the contract, whatever.”
Since the jury voted not to authorize the notice, it appears the MCCI contract will be renewed when it expires on June 12 unless action is taken at the regular meeting on March 14 — exactly 90 days before the expiration date.
