“Our job is to continue to prove to the taxpayers that we will keep working to the best of our ability.”
The results from Saturday’s election are set to be made official by the state and will be accepted by the school board at its June 5 meeting via a public hearing and then a roll call vote.
That measure was one of several notices presented by the board and its president, James Higginbotham, prior to voting action Monday. Higginbotham also announced that the board had heard and considered the revenue aspect of its 2017-2018 budget. He also announced, and it was subsequently approved by the full board that prior to its July meeting (set for July 10), the board will hold a public hearing regarding the 2017-18 budget. Both public hearings begin at 5 p.m. and will be held in the meeting chambers of the board, 2402 N. Parkerson Ave. in Crowley.
Following these items, the board turned its attention to committee recommendations, all of which were unanimously approved.
Approved recommendations from the Budget and Finance Committee included:
— The Child Nutrition Program’s Procurement Plan – a localized version of the USDA guidelines regarding purchasing and receiving items;
— The parish’s school wellness policy – a localized version of USDA guidelines regarding healthy eating and more;
— A resolution authorizing the state of Louisiana to advertise for oil and gas lease by cash sale and award oil and gas lease on Acadia Parish School Board’s behalf – one acre in Section 24, Township 7 South, Range 1 East; and 10 acres in Section 19, Township 7 South, Range 2 East; and
— The permission to improve the parish’s bus fleet by adding up to 15 new buses for the 2017-18 school year.
Additionally, the board approved a resolution to finance bus purchases with Municipal Capital Markets Group, Inc.
The board also set the dates for its next two meetings. Committee meetings will be held at 5 p.m. May 15 and the next regular session will be at 5 p.m. June 5.
