The Eunice Bobcats scored eight runs in the first four innings to take an 8-2 win over Sacred Heart in Metro League action Monday evening at Bobcat Field.
The game was limited to five innings by agreement of both coaches as inclement weather became a factor.
Coach Danny Soileau’s Cats scored two runs in the first inning to take the lead. Austin Phillips singled and Jaydon Brasseaux was hit by a pitch before Tyler Darbonne and Josh Youngblood followed with singles to put the Cats ahead 2-0.
The Cats added two more runs in the second. Ian George and Grant Fontenot drew walks and both advanced due to a wild pitch. Another wild pitch would score George before Brasseaux drove in Fontenot with a sacrifice fly.
The Cats scored a single run in the third inning and added three more in the fourth. Youngblood drove in two runs with a single and Deonte Gallow singled home the final run.
Brasseaux and George combined to limit the offense of Sacred Heart. The two pitchers allowd just two hits while striking out four.
The Cats will travel to Opelousas Catholic todayfor their next contest.
Eunice began its summer baseball schedule with three games in tournament play here this past weekend.
On Friday, the Bobcats dropped a 6-5 decision to the host Dragons. The Bobcats rebounded on Saturday with a 9-1 victory over Leesville before finishing their play in the tournament with an 11-11 tie against Hick due to time limit.
Against DeRidder, the Bobcats fell behind 3-0 after four innings. The Cats tied the Dragons by scroing three runs in the fifth inning thanks to a two-run double by Tyler Darbonne, but the Dragons scored two runs in the sixth to pull to a 5-3 lead. In addition to Darbonne’s two doubles, Austin Phillips added a triple and Jaydon Brasseaux added a double.
The Cats tied the game in the top of the seventh on another two-run double by Darbonne, but the Dragons managed to score a run in the bottom of the seventh to claim the win. In addition to Darbonne’s two doubles, Austin Phillips had a triple and Jaydon Brasseaux doubled.
The win on Saturday agsinst Leesville was highlighted by no-hit pitching by the Cats. The trio of Darbonne, Grant Fontenot, and Deonte Gallow shut down the bats of the Wampus Cats, whose lone run came in the second inning, without benefit of a hit.
The Cats, meanwhile, banged out nine hits, led by Seth Venable’s triple and a double by Ian George. Phillips and Grant Fontenot drove in two runs apiece.
Against Hicks, the Bobcats took a 5-0 lead in the first inning on singles by Phillips, Venable, Darbonne, Gallow, George, and Parker Jodon.
But Hicks bounced back with a run in the bottom of the first, then added six- runs in the third inning to lead 7-5. The Cats regained the lead with three runs in the fifth and three in the sixth for an 11-7 advantage, but Hicks tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 11-11 and the game ended because of a time limit.
