The following are from the June 1976 files of The Eunice News.
Mike Kammera, manager of Dresser Industry in Eunice, said the company was pleased with the caliber of people available to hire and the plant will have about 450 people employed within a year. Kammera, who was speaking to the Chamber of Commerce board of directors, said as many as 1,000 people may be employed at the plant by 1980. In attendance at the meeting were Gladney Manuel, Cedric Fruge, Murphy Richard, Jerome Moore and Curtis Joubert, who was representing Public Service Commissioner Tommy Powell.
Richard Bertrand and Revon Deshotel received a presidential award for outstanding service at the annual Jaycee Honors Banquet. Ted Joubert received the Chairman of the Year award. James Richard was named Outstanding New Jaycee. Outstanding Jaycee awards were presented to Don Leonards and Ron Ardoin. Outgoing president John “Lapin” Bertrand presented the awards.
Central Elementary School cheerleaders were honored at the school’s Awards Day. Cheerleaders were Leslie Howard, Angela Courville, Carla Doyle, Christina Deville, Ann Jenkins, Janice Semien, Melanie Lemelle, Mazolla Bell and Liz Bell. Debra Randall was the sponsor.
The Eunice Super-Ette advertisement included fresh ground beef for 79 cents a pound.
John Eldred was named to the All-State baseball team as outfielder by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Eldred had graduated in May from Eunice High School and was going to LSUE.
