The Kaplan High Pirates used an impressive rushing attack against the Eunice High Bobcats in a football scrimmage played Thursday at Bobcat Stadium.
The Bobcats opened the varsity portion of the scrimmage using a mix of run and pass against the Kaplan defense to move down the field before quarterback Jaydon Brasseaux found junior receiver Jordan open down the field.
Ledet pulled in the pass and finished the 50-yard pass play for a touchdown, according to unofficial stats.
But the Cats were unable to add on to their touchdown before the end of their 15 plays, despite Trevin Ceaser’s 10 yard run on the final play.
Kaplan’s offense took their turn at offense with a steady rushing attack that was led by the Pirates’ offensive front line.
The Pirates marched down the field, gaining 42 yards on seven carries.
After an incomplete pass, the Pirates scored a touchdown on a four-yard run.
In their final four plays, the Pirates completed a 45-yard pass to set up a second touchdown before the end of their possession.
The Bobcat offense got off to a rough start on their second and final varsity possession thanks to an interception and a fumble, but the Cats recovered thanks to their running attack.
Ceaser ran for six yards on two attempts and Avery Lee added runs of eight and 10 yards. Lee later gained 12 yards after catching a pass from Brasseaux.
Ceaser added a 12-yard run and Dameon Frank had a 14-yard run on the final play of their 15 plays.
On their second varsity possession, Kaplan continued their running attack, although the Cats did recover a fumble, causing the Pirates to restart their possession.
But the Kaplan turnover did not deter the Pirates’ attack as they ran off 11 rushes to move down the field and score a touchdown and end the scrimmage.
Bobcat head coach Paul Trosclair felt his team needed to improve its front line play on both sides of the ball. “We need to get more physical”.
