Parish sales tax collections ahead of last year

Sales tax collections in Eunice are gradually reaching the 2016 level.
In a report from the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division, sales tax collections in Eunice from January through August were $3,533,815, down 0.4 percent or $15,125 from the same period in 2016.
Eunice sales tax collections were 0.8 percent below the previous year in the July report.
The January to August total for St. Landry Parish was $44,741,750, up 2.6 percent or $1,136,705 from the same period in 2016.
The parish sales tax total includes collections for the parish, school system, solid waste, law enforcement, special taxing districts and municipal taxes.
Eunice sales tax collections decreased 8 percent from July to August. August’s total was $412,479, down $35,835 from July.
The August sales tax collection was 2.7 percent above the $401,571 collected in August 2016.
St. Landry Parish’s total sales tax collections in August were $5,007,393, which is a 1.4 percent decrease from August 2016’s $5,078,510.
August parish sales tax collections of $5,007,393 were down 16.6 percent or $996,539 from July’s $6,003,932.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 10.75 percent. Of that 5 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas in St. Landry Parish pay a 10.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 5 percent state and 5.5 percent parish rates.
On April 1, 2016, the state sales tax rate rose by 1 percent.
