Bobcats maul Red Devils

Eunice High broke a four-game losing streak with a 47-0 District 5-3A victory over the Port Barre Red Devils before a homecoming crowd Friday night at Bobcat Stadium.
Coach Paul Trosclair’s Bobcats (2-4, 1-2) wasted little time in taking control of the contest as quarterback Jaden Brasseaux teamed with Jordan Ledet for a 44-yard pass on the first play of the game.
Brasseaux teamed with Avery Lee on a six-yard gain to set up a three-yard touchdown run at the 10:12 point of the opening quarter. Austin Phillips kicked the PAT for a 7-0 lead.
After the Bobcat defense forced a Red Devil punt, the Cats’ offense went on a 60-yard scoring drive that concluded with Trevin Ceaser’s one-yard touchdown run. Phillips kicked the PAT to put the Bobcats on top by a 14-0 margin.
The Cats added a third touchdown after forcing a punt and taking possession at the Red Devils 45-yard line.
It took six plays to score, with Ledet scoring on a 27 pass from Brasseaux with 2:34 left in the first quarter. Phillips added the PAT.
The Red Devils had their best drive of the night at the start of the second quarter, driving from their own 33 to the Bobcats’ 5-yard line.
After the Cats held the Devils out of the end zone on two runs, Port Barre attempted a pass which Bobcat defensive back Ja’Vondre intercepted in the end zone.
The Bobcats picked up a first down and changed field position when a 50-yard punt by Brasseaux set the Red Devils back inside their 30.
The Cats took advantage of the field position as Brasseaux teamed with Lee on an 18-yard pass before Lee broke free for a 30-yard touchdown run,
Harold Fontenot just missed on the PAT kick but the Cats held a 27-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Bobcats came out of halftime with a defensive stop to set up another touchdown.
Ceaser’s three-yard run and a PAT kick by Phillips gave the Bobcats a 34-0 lead.
Ceaser added another touchdown on a six-yard run late in the third quarter and Phillips nailed the PAT kick for a 41-0 lead.
Sophomore running back Devin Richardson broke open on a 47-yard touchdown run with 7:28 left in the game to expand the Eunice High to 47-0.
The Bobcats collected 367 yards of offense against the Red Devils. Brasseaux completed eight of 11 passes for 141 yards, while adding 226 yards on the ground.
EHS travels to Pine Prairie (3-3, 2-1) this Friday.
