Cancer benefit Saturday for Gloria Fuselier
There will be a cancer benefit for Gloria Jeansonne Fuselier’s medical fund expenses.
Fuselier was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and liver cancer. The benefit luncheon of barbecue hamburgers, sausage po-boys and pork steak sandwiches will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Word Ministries parking lot in Eunice.

Acadia Parish Dist. 4 Co-Ed Tourney set
The Acadia Fire Dist. 4 will host a Co-Ed Softball Tournament on Saturday and Sunday at the Eunice Rec Complex.
Entry fee is $225 per team and teams will consist of 7 guys and 3 girls.
There will be prizes for Champion and Runner-up.
There will also be a home run derby and a beer drinking contest.
Registration deadline is Oct. 13.

LSUE French Table meet Fridays
The LSUE French Table will be from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Fridays at LSUE Continuing Ed Building, Room 117, next to baseball field.
On Friday, a topic of discussion will be superstitions from long ago.
On Nov. 3, a discussion of “ways of showing dislike for something or someone”.
On Nov. 10, a discussion of early toys for children.
The event is free, and welcomed to all. Coffee will be served.

Rendez-Vous De Cajuns at Liberty
The Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler Au Rendez-Vous De Cajuns is scheduled at the Liberty every from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday with live entertainment.
The Liberty opens at 4 p.m. the show begins at 6 p.m.
For the month of October the bands will include:
Saturday: Cajun August Broussard & Friends;
Oct. 28: A performance at LSUE, Experience Louisiana Festival, Courtbouillon, featuring Wayne Toups, Steve Riley & Wilson Savoy.
The Liberty performance admission is $5 at the door.

Halloween 5K Glow Run set Oct. 29
The Iota High Beta Club will sponsor a Halloween 5-K Glow Run at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Iota City Hall pavilion.
Race day registration and packet pick up will be from 6 to 6:45 p.m. with race start time at 7 p.m.
There will be trophies and medals awarded and pre-registration is $30 and due by Oct. 22. Race day registration is $40.

Heart Health class set Oct. 24 at LSUE
The LSU Ag Center will offer a class on Heart Health beginning at 9 a.m. Oct. 24.
Heart disease is the number one cause of death in Louisiana. For a $5 admission fee, attendees will learn the various aspects of heart disease, risk factors of heart disease, prevention and maintenance of heart disease, and the signs of a heart attack and stroke. Heart healthy samplings will be served as well as recipes to take home.
The event will be held at LSUE in the Continuing Education Building (next to the baseball complex) Room 117.

St. Edmund High School will celebrate homecoming activities Friday.

Cameron’s Shoes 5K Run set Oct. 28
The annual Cameron’s Shoes Foundation 5K Charity Run/Walk will be held from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Oct. 28 at LSUE campus, in conjunction with annual Experience Louisiana Festival.
Cameron’s Shoes, a charity foundation, formed and created by Stevie Guillory, a native of Eunice, provides shoes to poverty stricken families in Cali, Columbia.

Word Ministries 10-year celebration
Word Ministries in Eunice will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary Oct. 26, 28 and 29.
There will be a Hallelujuah Praise on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.; A Holy Ghost Party on Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. and on Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. there will be a guest minister Pastor Allen W. Ben from New Zion Baptist Church and Zion Travelers Church.

Family Fun Day at Pilgrim Rest
Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church will have a Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Oct. 28 at the church grounds, located at 1154 Academy Road, Eunice.
There will be music, games, food.

Veterans Day celebration set Nov. 11
The Veterans Day celebration will be held Nov. 11 at the VFW Post 8971 on Hwy. 190, Eunice.
Families of Veterans are invited to attend the ceremony at 11 a.m. There will be an introduction of Veterans and a Flag Retiring ceremony.
Lunch will be provided by sponsors of the American Legion, DAV and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8971.

Free child car seat installation
Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laurel Ave., Eunice.
The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.

Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center
Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice, are the Explore & Restore craft workshop for kids, from 10 a.m. to noon; Cajun Conversations meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. to learn and practice conversational Cajun French; Music and dancing kicks off at 2:45 p.m. and ends with the cooking demonstration and sampling at 4 p.m. Admission to the center and programs is free.

VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.
