A native of Lawtell, Mildred Prejean, became the first Centenarian of The Leonard Prejean family when she celebrated her 100th birthday in October.
Attending the celebration in Bridge City, Texas, were three nephew, all Eunice residents, Curtis Joubert, Ray “Shorty” Rozas and Judson Ardoin, along with all their family members.
Prejean is known as a remarkable, sharp as a tack, very mobile woman. Joubert added, “She works out everyday. She is beautiful and looks like an early 60-year-old woman. She still remembers days in Lawtell area, with her friends, the Cajun language and much more.”
In Texas, Prejean married Terrell Piggott, a Gulf Oil refinery worker, and they raised five children. Her husband died in 1994. In 2001, she met and married Edwin Purifoy, who later died.
Prejean lives in her Bridge City home joined by her daughter Sandra.
