Former Ville Platte deputy marshal’s trial date set

VILLE PLATTE — In September, a Jefferson Davis Parish grand jury returned a bill of indictment on former Ville Platte Deputy Marshal Arthur Phillips for promoting prostitution.
Phillips was arrested in May after he was accused of picking up a woman in Ville Platte, having sex with her, and then later taking her to Fenton where she allegedly performed sex acts with other people for money.
At the time of his arrest, detectives with the Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office said the female claimed that after performing the sexual acts, Phillips kept the $160 she was paid and then refused to give her a ride home.
Joseph then sent Phillips a text message, threatening to file a rape complaint against him if he didn’t give her a ride. Joseph was also arrested for prostitution, possession of a schedule I drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Phillips’s pre-trial date has been set for Jan. 10 with his trial date set for Jan. 22.
