In a battle between former district rivals, Westminster Christian Academy used balanced scoring for a 63-35 win over St. Edmund.
WCA (6-5) opened the gsme with a 9-0 run, including five points from Trey Firmin.
St. Edmund (0-6) Easton Coleman hit a free throw with 5:11 left in the period for the first Blue Jay point of the game.
Luke Trahan scored on a put-back bucket while Alex Dupre and Wesley Driggs late helped the Blue Jays closed the gap to 13-7.
After Princeton Malbrue hit two free throws for the Crusaders, Dupre scored on a second-chance bucket to help SEH close the margin to 15-9 as the game moved to the second period.
The Blue Jays went on a 7-1 run to begin the second frame, sparked by four points from Dupre and a trey by Henry Brown to force a 16-16 tie.
WCA answered with a 10-1 run, aided by seven points from Braylin Henry.
Dupre scored in the lane to close the gap to 25-19 with 2:46 left in the half,
Henry added four points to push WCA ahead, 30-19 at the break.
The Crusaders exploded for a 15-5 surge to open the third quarter and put the game out of reach.
After seven straight points by WCA, Dupre hit two free throws to close the margin to 37-21 with 2:02 left in the period.
The Blue Jays added a free throw by Driggs and a drive in the lane from Brown as SEH closed the gap to 18 points.
WCA’s Jacob Johnson drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to push the Crusaders up, 45-24 heading into the final period.
The Jays began the fourth quarter with a 4-2 run, aided by buckets from Driggs and Carter Andrus.
WCA then went on a 6-1 surge for a 53-29 advantage midway through the period.
Dupre and Brown each hit a free throw for the Jays, but Johnson responded with a trey for WCA.
Gus Brown drove the lane for the Jays, while free throws from Brown and Andrus closed the SEH scoring.
Cade Lyons scored the last six Crusader points, inclduing two free throws with two seconds left to seal the 63-35 win.
Dupre led St. Ed’s scoreing with 14 points.
Brown chipped in seven and Driggs added five points.
Henry led WCA with 18 points and Malbrue contributed 15 points.
The Blue Jays will play host to Vermilion Catholic Friday night.
