Iota runs past Lady Cats

The Eunice High School Lady Bobcats struggled to keep pace with the Iota High School Lady Bulldogs in District 5-3A basketball action at the Bobcat gym Thursday night, eventually falling to the Lady Bulldogs by a 65-34 margin.
The Lady Bobcats held their own against the Lady Bulldogs in the opening quarter, trailing 14-9 as Stacie White scored five points and Jesslyn Reed and Shanyia Toussaint scored two apiece.
Five Iota players scored in the opening quarter, with Madeline Gatte and Brooke Andrepont scoring four points apiece. Kendall Miller, Naomi Rassberry, and Madison Oliver each scored field goals for the Lady Bullodgs.
The Lady Bulldogs extended their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Bobcats by a 16-9 margin to take control of the game. Oliver topped the second quarter scoring for Iota with eight points, with Gatte contributing six points to give the Lady Bulldogs a 30-18 halftime lead. Reed led the Lady Bobcats with four points in the second quarter.
Iota pulled away from the Lady Cats in the third quarter behind the scoring of Gatte, who hit four field goals and made four of four free throws.
White led Eunice with three points in the third quarter as the Lady Bulldogs extended their lead to 49-23.
Iota continued to extend their lead in the fourth quarter with Brooke Andrepont scoring five points and Colleen Johnson four points to lead the fourth quarter scoring.
White scored five points to lead the Lady Bobcats.
Gatte topped the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs with 20 points.
Andrepont added 13 and Oliver contributed 12 points.
White led the scoring for the Lady Bobcats with 15 points.
Reed scored eight points for the Lady Bobcats, who fell to 9-6 overall and 0-2 in district play.
Eunice returns to action on Jan.3 at home against Crowley.
Iota improves to 9-4 overall and 2-0 in district play.
