IOTA – The Eunice High Lady Bobcats stayed within striking distance of the Iota High School Lady Bulldogs for three quarters, but were unable to catch the Lady Bulldogs, who sealed the win with a 15-10 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Iota took an early lead by outscoring the Lady Bobcats 9-4 in the first quarter. Madeline Gatte and Colleen Johnson led the Iota scoring with three points apiece.
Eunice’s Shania Malveaux led the Lady Cats with a three-point goal.
The Lady Bobcats bounced back in the second quarter to outscore the Lady Bulldogs 14-13, with Stacie White leading the Lady Bobcats with eight points as Eunice trailed 22-18 at halftime.
It remained a four-point lead for the Lady Bulldogs through the third quarter as each team scored nine points, giving Iota a 31-27 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Brook Andrepont led Iota with four points and Kendall Miller added three, while Malveaux and Makayia Ceasar led the scoring for Eunice with four and three points, respectively in the third quarter.
The Lady Cats were unable to catch the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth quarter as Gatte and Lilly Zaunbrecher led the way in scoring to give the Lady Bulldogs a 15-10 advantage in the final quarter. White scored five points and Jesslyn Reed added three for the Lady Cats, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Lady Bulldogs.
Top scorer for Iota (18-5, 8-1) was Gatte with 13 points. Miller added 10 and Johnson finished with eight for the Lady Bulldogs.
White was top scorer for the Lady Bobcats with 13 points. Malveaux added nine and Reed contributed seven for the Lady Bobcats.
Eunice (12-10, 3-5) will travel to Mamou (7-11, 4-4) on Thursday as they continue District 5-3A action.
Iota 75, Eunice 52
The Bulldogs exploded for 48 second-half points to help Iota to seal a 75-52 win over Eunice High.
The Bobcats (4-16 overall, 1-5 in District 5-3A) fought for a 19-16 first quarter lead over the Bulldogs )15-10, 3-4).
Carlin Vigers led the Bobcats with nine points, while Mykal Moore chipped in eight points and Keithan Monday added two points.
Colby Wilson led Iota in the first period with nine points, while Kyle Thibodeaux contributed four points and Brewtt Clay added three points.
The two teams continued to battle in the second frame as the Bulldogs managed outgain Eunice, 11-10.
Vigers scored four points for the Bobcats, while Vigers, Morre and Isaiah Darby all added two points each.
Wilson and Jeron Latiolais both pushed in five points for the Bulldogs and Thibodeaux added a free throw in the period.
Eunice held a 29-27 advantage at the intermission, but Iota rallied for a 26-14 third quarter run to take over the game.
Tim Jones and Darby scored four points each in the quarter, while Jordan Ledet, Morre and Corneilus Lewis all scored a bucket for Bobcats.
Latiolais and Wilson continued their hot scoring for Iota with nine and eight points respectively.
Iota took its 53-43 advantage into the fourth quarter and then sealed the game with a 22-9 run.
