Maxine Trahan, the former spokeswoman for the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, pleaded no contest Thursday to felony charges.
Before District Judge Marilyn Castle, Trahan pleaded no contest to one count of felony theft and one count of exploitation of the infirmed.
In entering her plea, Trahan admitted to stealing thousands of dollars while she caring for an elderly victim.
The victim is over 80 years old and suffers from dementia, according to court records.
Trahan’s five-year sentence was rescinded and she has been placed on three years of active suspended probation. She also must pay the victim $40,000 in restitution.
She has been court-ordered to have no contact with the victim. Trahan faces the five year prison sentence if she violates probation.
Trahan is still facing charges of embezzling nearly $200,000 in cash from the Acadiana Parish Sheriff’s Office, her former workplace.
Her trial for those charges is set for a later date.
