It what turned out to be a defensive standoff, St. Edmund earned a 3-1 win Monday over Pine Prairie at Blue Jay Field.
St. Edmund pitcher Brock Bieber and Remi Guillory limited Pine Prairie to just four hits and five shutout innings before the Panthers scored a run in the sixth frame.
After threatening in the first two innings, the Blue Jays scored twice in the fourth inning when Bieber and Dawson Ardoin both singled and scored on an Panther error.
St. Edmund added a run in the fifth when Brad Miller singled and scored on a triple by Payton Marcantel.
The Panthers avoided the shutout when Jordan Ardoin singled, advanced on a hit and scored on a double steal.
Bieber earned the win as he struck out two, walked two and allowed one earned run on four hits over six innings.
Guillory pitched the final inning, striking out one and walking one.
Jordan Ardoin took the loss for Pine Prairie as he allowed three runs on five hits over six innings, striking out eight.
Dawson Ardoin, Bieber, Marcantel Miller and Will Turk all had one hit for the Blue Jays.
Jordan Ardoin and Cole Thomas both went 2-for-3 for Pine Prairie.
St Edmund will participate in the Rosepine tournament this weekend.

YOUNGSVILLE – St. Edmund fell to 3-3 on the season Tuesday with a 9-4 road loss to defending state champions Ascension Episcopal.
The Blue Gators jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Jack Leoni and Chris Simon both walked and scored on a triple by Seth Kerstetter.
AES added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, begun when Leoni doubled and scored on Carter Dooley’s single.
Dooley then scored on a Blue Jay error to push the Gators up 4-0.
Ascension Episcopal put the game out of reach with a five-run explosion in the bottom of the fifth frame.
Austin Arceneaux walked, Andrew Lotief was hit by a pitch and Andrew Hebert walked to load the bases.
Leoni singled in Arceneaux, while Lotief scored on a fielder’s choice.
Kerstetter then tripled to center to allow Hebert and Leoni to score.
Kerstetter scored on an error to push the Blue Gators up, 9-0.
St. Edmund rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning, begun when Will Turk singled and scored on a ground out by Guillory.
Brice Vidrine singled and later pinch runner Hunter Breaux scored on a passed ball.
Brad Miller reached on an error and scored when Marcantel also advanced on an Blue Gator error.
Lance Miller walked and scored on a AES miscue to close the final gap to five runs.
Marcantel went 3-for-4 to lead the Blue Jays, while Turk and Guillory recorded the other two St. Ed hits.
Kerstetter went 3-for-4 with four RBI to lead AES.
