Eunice freshman pitcher Jailyn Pavich struck out five out the first nine Northwest batters as the Lady Cats rolled to a 9-3 win over District 5-1A rival Northwest
The Lady Cats (4-10 overall, 2-4 in district) will travel to Iota (10-4, 4-1) today as district action continues.
Eunice exploded for four runs in the bottom of the second inning, begun when Morgan Domingue doubled and then scored on a triple by Nicole Vidrine.
The Lady Cats moved ahead 2-0 when Vidrine scored on a passed ball.
Hailey Sonnier added a run as she singled and scored when Amber Arvie reached on a fielder’s choice.
Olivia Thibodeaux walked and scored on a sacrifice bunt by McKenzie Guillory as the Lady Cats pushed ahead, 4-0.
Eunice added a run in the bottom of the third frame when Cassie Thomas singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Nicole Vidrine.
The Lady Cats increased its lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth as Sonnier reached on an error and crossed home plate on another Lady Raider miscue.
Northwest responded with a run in the top of the fifth when Amiah Joseph dounled and scored off a hit by Alexa Jason.
Eunice answered with a run in the bottom of the inning as Nicole Vidrine reached on an error, stole second and scored on a sacrifice by Thibodeaux.
Northwest closed the gap to 7-3 with two runs in the top of the sixth inning, begun when Teyonne Papillion singled and scored on a double by Kahli Malone.
Tashnai Fontenot singled and scored on a double from Kianni Papillion.
Eunice added two insurance runs in the bottom of the inning to push ahead, 9-3.
Sonnier doubled and Arvie followed with a home run to seal the Lady Cat win.
Pavich finished with eight strikeouts on the night in the victory.
It was Eunice’s third district victory after wins over Port Barre (2-1) and Ville Platte (2-1).
Monday’s game against the Lady Bulldogs was cancelled and will rescheduled at later date.
Iota has picked up district wins over Mamou (3-1), Crowley (10-8), Church Point (16-1) and Port Barre (9-4).
The Lady Bulldogs’ sole district loss came against Pine Prairie on Tuesday, 14-4.
