Pharmacist Charles Feucht was awarded the Eunice Rotary Club’s 2017 Citizen of the Year Award on Wednesday.
John Pucheu, chairman of the club’s Citizen of the Year Committee, said, “I’’ve known Charles all of my life and I’ve seen him involved in so many good things it is hard to just pick a few” as he explained why Feucht was selected.
Feucht was nominated by Amy Rider who said, “In my opinion he is a man of great virtue.”
Pucheu said he reviewed a list of past recipients of the award.
“They are all people who did things that made Eunice a good place to live,” he said.
The club was founded in 1924 and has given the award since 1942.
“All of the citizens that we have recognized over the years ... should inspire everyone in this room to do something,” Pucheu said.
“There are a lot of things to be done. Worthwhile endeavors are not hard to find. There is always stuff you can do ... finding something to do is not hard. Getting it done is the hard part. Charles is the kind of person who gets it done,” Pucheu said.
Feucht credited his wife, Lynette, and God for his life.
“I can tell you whatever perception you had that made you think I was deserving of such an award must have been only because the life I live was inspired and done only by the grace of God, not my own,” Feutch said.
Feucht said he and wife will be married 41 years on April 30. “I want you to know she was very much a part of that.”
Rider’s nomination letter stated, “They have raised three successful children who exemplify the same character and virtue. He is also “Pop” to seven beautiful grandchildren. It isn’t unusual to see him with a grandchild in tow.
“He is a family man, and also a man of great faith. At St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church he is a faithful parishioner. This man truly has a servant’s heart. He serves as a eucharistic minister and lector at his church parish. He is facilitator for “That Man Is You” which Is an interactive men’s program focused on the development of men In the modern world and he serves as a core team member for ACTS. ACTS is an acronym for Adoration, Community, Theology and Service and this man is the epitome of all four.
“He also serves as chairman of The Giving Tree. The Giving Tree is a project that collects and distributes toys at Christmas for needy elementary school students in our community. As you can tell this man generously donates his time and talents to “be the light of Christ” to his community. It isn’t everyday you are sitting at your desk and your boss gives you a prayer card with a prayer that he has written on it.
“He is just as accomplished in his professional life. He earned a doctor of pharmacy from the University of Arkansas. He currently operates his own practice, Acadiana Clinical Pharmacist Services, Inc., where his motto is ‘Quality Is Contagious.’ He is a preceptor for the ULM College of Pharmacy, faculty member of LSUE, and member and presenter for both the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists and the louisiana Geriatric Society.
“A few of his other accomplishments include Best Actor Irving Award at Eunice Players’ Theatre, voice of the Bluejays, St. Edmund School Board Member, St. Anthony Parish Council President and former member and past president of the Eunice Rotary Club.
“For this reason and many more than I can possibly list, I am proud to nominate my boss and mentor, Dr. Charles S. Feucht, for the Rotary Club 2017 Citizen of the Year Award. One motto of Rotary International is ‘He who profits most serves the best.’ Charles exemplifies this motto.’
