A Crowley man has been sentenced to 30 years for stabbing two Acadia Parish Narcotic Agents in 2016.
Jason Broussard, 44, was sentenced by 15th Judicial District Judge John Trahan to 15 years in prison on each of two charges of aggravated second-degree battery.
The sentences are to be served consecutively.
Broussard also was sentenced to three years on each of two counts of resisting arrest with force. Those sentences are to be served concurrently with the two 15-year sentences.
The incident occurred on Feb. 6, 2016.
According to incident reports, the sheriff’s office was called regarding a disturbance at a grocery store at the corner of Louisiana Highway 95 and Louisiana Highway 98 in Mire.
When deputies arrived, they were told that Broussard, who then resided in the 100 block of Velma Court in Crowley, had been in the store and was “causing problems with customers.” Broussard had left the store before deputies arrived, but witnesses believed he was still on the property.
Two narcotics agents — Tracy Young and Kevin Trahan — responded to assist in locating Broussard, who was found in an outer building behind the store.
As the agents were attempting to make an arrest, Broussard began to resist violently and stabbed both agents several times. then-Sheriff Wayne Melancon reported at the time.
Broussard was arrested by deputies as he was attempting to flee the scene. He was initially charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Assistant District Attorney Kim Hayes prosecuted the case.
