Crowley High School graduates 157 candidates

From military enlistees to Hall of Fame appointees, Crowley High School’s Class of 2018 saw many honors fall its way this year, none as sweet as the diplomas they received Thursday night.
Crowley High School’s graduating class featured 157 students, nearly half of whom were recognized as having a 3.0 grade point average and four students who have enlisted into a branch of the military service.
Timothy Boudreaux, principal, welcomed the crowd and addressed graduates with a quote from Maya Angelou, “My mission in life is not to survive but to thrive.”
Boudreaux went on to say, “To thrive means to grow, develop, prosper, shine, succeed and rise. It is exciting for you all to travel down this path of the journey we call life. You will experience many successes and many challenges throughout. But, remember this, our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The certain way to succeed is always to try one more time.”
The Class of 2018 featured seven graduates with high distinction — a 4.0 and above grade point average — that all qualified as valedictorians of the school this year.
Those seven — Cason Blane Dore, Sarah Elizabeth Hanks, Alyssa Nicole Huval, Cameron Robert McCall, Taylor Michelle Perrodin, Kaitlyn Deshea Trahan and London Blair Vidrine — were invited to and submitted speeches to deliver Thursday night. The faculty chose two to deliver addresses.
Sarah Hanks, valedictorian, told the crowd, “Someday soon, we will all have bills and mortgages to worry about and maybe even a couple kids, and eventually, we will be sitting where our parents are now, watching our own children graduate. So, make mistakes. Love passionately; care to much. Make a fool out of yourself and laugh about it.”
Taylor Perrodin followed, telling his fellow graduates, “You see, each one of us was perfectly and uniquely made. There is not, nor will there ever be anyone like you. So, choose to embrace the person you are, and to not allow anyone or anything to distort the image of the true you.”
Among the special awards and presentations made at graduation, Alton Allen announced the 2017-2018 appointee to the Hall of Fame. The prestigious honor this year went to Sarah Hanks.
Prior to that, American Legion Posts 506 and 15 presented their awards to two individuals each.
Post 506’s award was presented to Perry Miles and Zuranashia O Shalay Brown, while Post 15’s awards were presented to Matthew Ryan Foster and Chloe Von Sibley.
After all the presentations were made, Alisha Fontenot, was pleased to recognize the seven valedictorians along with the 33 graduates with distinction this year (those who have earned a 3.5 to 3.99 grade point average).
Thirty five others were named honor graduates by the school for maintaining a 3.0 to 3.49 grade point average throughout high school.
Finally though, after Fontenot allowed the crowd to holler loudly for the entire class, the graduates were presented with their diplomas to applause one-by-one.
