Daundric Johnson surrendered on Monday to face warrants issued after a fire at his ex-girlfriend’s house just before 9:30 p.m. June 24 in the 100 block of College Road in Eunice.
Johnson, 25, was wanted by the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal on one count of simple arson and criminal trespassing.
Johnson turned himself in at the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The Fire Marshal was contacted by Eunice firefighters to investigate the fire.
Investigators found two areas of origin for the fire and classified it as incendiary.
While the tenant was not home at the time of the fire, she told investigators that she had recently broken up with Johnson, and on June 22, told him to come get his things.
On the night of the fire, two different witnesses reported seeing Johnson either at the home, or driving in the area of the home, shortly before the fire was discovered. Area surveillance video confirmed those reports and an arrest warrant was issued June 25.
Investigators have identified a second potential suspect and are seeking that person for an interview.
The case remains active as additional arrests are possible, according to a news release from the State Fire Marshal.
