CROWLEY (July 12) — With the exception of a PowerPoint presentation by a company that wants to become the parish’s “disaster recovery reimbursement consultant,” the Acadia Police Jury handled a routine agenda with little fanfare here Tuesday night.
Gene Robinson, engineer, and Chris Fenner, vice president, outlined Stuart Consulting Group’s credentials for the jurors and explained how they could cut through the red tape with FEMA and other disaster aid agencies if and when needed.
The jury took no action following the presentation.
Later in the meeting, jurors approved the addition of 10 RV pedestals at the Acadia Rice Arena.
The Arena currently has 10 pedestals, which provide service to two RVs each. But that’s not enough, according to Treg Meyers, Arena director.
“They’re all rented almost every weekend,” Meyers told jurors. “A lot of those RVs you see out there in the parking lot are using their own generators.”
Price tag for the 10 new pedestals is $53,671, according to A.J. Fatty” Broussard, secretary-treasurer, who said Requests for Proposal (RFPs) had been solicited.
Meyers, who was appointed director at the Arena in April, also briefed jurors on the operations at the facility.
“There’s something going on out there every weekend,” he said. “We just had the Cajun Rodeo out there and it was the biggest event since I’ve been on board. We were packed — standing room only.”
Jurors also approved an amendment extending the contract with D&J Enterprises for vegetative and debris removal. The current contract expires Aug. 3, “right in the middle of hurricane season,” according to Police Jury President David Savoy.
The new contract changes the expiration date to the end of the calendar year and extends the contract one calendar year, to the end of 2019.
In other action, jurors approved:
— The reappointment of Sanders Senegal and Martin William Dischler Jr. to the First Ward Drainage District;
— The reappointment of Conrad Meyers and Darryl Zaunbrecher to the Second Ward Gravity Drainage District No. 2;
— The reappointment of James Philip Lacasse to the Iota Fire Protection District;
— A “land use agreement” between the parish and Paul James Prejean to maintain property at 191 Kevin Drive (Lot 91 of Acadian Village) in Duson, an adjudicated property in the police jury’s possession. The parish will “bush-hog” the property and Prejean agreed to maintain in in the future;
— An extension of the parish’s contract with Darnall, Sikes and Frederick, CPA, for auditing services through 2019 at a price of $42,500 per year.
