The Eunice Bobcats look to start the 2018 season with a road win over the Opelousas High Tigers.
“Every body wants to start their season on a high note,” EHS head coach Paul Trosclair said. “Hopefully we will play well.”
Eunice battled for a 6-0 win over Opelousas Catholic as the two defenses ruled the Joe Nagata Memorial jamboree.
After a scoreless first half, the Bobcats pushed across the game’s only touchdown when Simeon Ardoin found Tyler Darbonne open in the end zone on a fourth down play from the OC 7.
“I thought we controlled the ball pretty well we just need to finish the drives when we get inside the 20,” Trosclair said of the jamboree win.
“We made some mistakes up front on the offensive line,” he said. “But with the youth there, we just need to get them more reps.”
OHS earned a 19-0 win over Norhwest in the St. Landry Parish jamboree last week.
“There is no doubt they are a better team than last year,” Trosclair said of the Tigers.
“It is going to come down to who is going to make plays and who’s not going to turn the ball over,” he said. “Those are usually the deciding factors.”
The Tigers (5-5 in 2017) stopped the Raiders from scoring twice inside the OHS 25 in the first half.
“They have good team speed,” Trosclair said. “Any time you play anybody with speed, it’s always a problem.”
The OHS offense was led by Marvion Young who ran four times for 155 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown.
“He is a good back,” Trosclair said.
“He has good feet and breaks tackles.
Eunice opened the 2017 season with a 24-0 win over OHS in Doug Guillory’s first game as the Tiger head coach.
“We need have hustle and dedication on the defensive side of the ball,” the Bobcat coach said.
“They know we have a tough schedule and there are going to be some bumps along the way, but I see our guys doing what it takes to be successful.”
