Bulb & Blossom meeting set Sept. 10
The Eunice Bulb and Blossom Garden Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 at the home of Marlow Veillon. Plans will be finalized for the upcoming district meeting which will be hosted by Eunice.
All members are asked to attend. Membership is open to anyone interested.

Highland sponsors school supply drive
Highland Elementary will have a school supply drive for Eunice Elementary’s students and teachers.
Anyone wishing to donate supplies can do at a drop off, which is in a designated container located near the school’s front office.

CFMA offers scholarship
The CFMA (Cajun French Music Association) Acadiana Charter Chapter will award a $500 scholarship starting in the fall semester, $250 per semester.
Applicants need to write a 500-word essay telling the chapter why they should be awarded the scholarship and what they know about the Cajun Culture, and why it is important to keep the present generation involved in the Cajun culture. A transcript of grades from last school attended and proof of enrollment for the semester needs to be included.

Individuals already attending college are eligible and you do not have to be a recent high school graduate, and you do not have to be a CFMA member or relative.

Auditions to be held for fall play Sept. 2-6
There will be auditions for an upcoming Eunice Players’ Theatre fall play “Southern Fried Funeral,” a comedy by Osborne & Eppler, at 2 p.m. Sunday, and again at 6:30 p.m. Monday and 6:30 p.m. Thursday. There will be parts for six women and five men ages 20 an up.

DSAA Buddy Walk set for Oct. 27
The Down Syndrome Association of Acadiana will have its 14th annual Buddy Walk on Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Parc International, 200 Garfield Street, downtown Lafayette.
Registration begins at 9 a.m.
Cost is $15 per person.

In Honor & Remembrance ceremony Sept. 11
There will be a In Honor and Remembrance Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Circle Park in Eunice, sponsored by Woodmen of the Life Chapter 243, VFW Post 8971, American Legion Post 129 and DAV Chapter 19.
Each year this ceremony gives members, family and friends a chance to grieve over the lives lost on the tragic day of Sept. 11 and to pay respect to the heroes who responded.
The Cub and Boy Scout troops will be in attendance for the flag raising ceremony. Hand held flags will be given to all in attendance.
The public is invited to attend.

Dwayne’s Dream Team fundraiser set
There will be a fundraiser 5K run, walk, crawl to benefit Dwayne Richard who was injured in a tragic accident on Sept. 12, 2017.
The event to benefit Richard is set to begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 15 at the Eunice City Hall.
Registration fee is $20.
Anyone wishing to participate can register and make payment on PayPal@DreamTeamGiveBack2018 noting shirt size, 4K, or both. Shirts are $20, and orders must be placed no later than Aug. 31.
Donations are also welcomed.

Survivorman event set Sept. 14 at ABC
Would your boys know how to get back to civilization if they became lost? They should never be in the wilderness without a buddy, someone to watch their back, hold the other end of the rope, to go for help. Acadian Baptist Center near Richard will present a two-day event, Survivorman, Sept. 14-15, for boys in first through sixth-grade grade and their dads.
The boys will participate in fast-paced, action-packed practical training on avoiding being lost, what to do when lost, and land navigation, as well as other fun activities.
Cost is $45 per person and includes meals and lodging.

EHS Bobcat Auction set Oct. 16
The annual Eunice High School Bobcat Auction, sponsored by the EHS Booster Club. will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Northwest Community Center.
It will be broadcast on 105-5 KEUN, streaming on ustream.com (search for “KEUN RADIO”), and audio will be live on Charter Cable channel 198. Items may be viewed on Facebook (EHS Booster Club Auction 2018).
Gumbo will be served for a small fee. A cash bar will be available.
There will be a silent auction going on at Northwest Community Center during the live auction with many other great items to view and bid on.

LeDoux Library accepts donations
The LeDoux Library on LSUE campus is accepting and collecting book donations and plans are to have a used book sale in conjunction with The Experience Louisiana Festival in October.

Benefit trail ride set for Sept. 22
The Fifth annual Benefit trail ride for the Eunice Community Health Center will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Northwest Community Center pavilion in Eunice.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. and ride will leave at 9 a.m.
Admission is $15 and will include lunch. Refreshments will be sold. There will be an auction during lunch.
The ride is sponsored by the Le Vieux Mardi Gras De Cajuns de Eunice.

IHS Band PoBoy fundraiser Sept. 20
Iota High Band is having a sausage po-boy sale to coincide with the homecoming parade on from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m., Sept. 20.
Poboys can be picked up at the Iota High band room.
Tickets are $5, and must be purchased by Sept. 10, and will include a sausage po boy, and a bag of chips.

Annunciation Bazaar set Sept. 15, 16
The Annunciation Church Bazaar will be held Saturday, Sept. 15 and Sunday, Sept. 16 at the church grounds, located at 4476 Duralde Hwy., Eunice.
There will be bingo and burgers for sale, after 4 p.m. Mass in the church hall, BBQ plate lunches, burgers, cold beverage, a sweet shop, live auction, raffle and much more for the entire family.

Miss Eunice sponsors a camp Sept. 8
Miss Eunice Jenna Godeau will sponsor a camp No Child Left Behind at the Acadian Baptist Center from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sept. 8.

DAV volunteer drivers needed
The DAV (Disabled American Veterans) is in dire need of volunteer drivers to drive veterans from Eunice to Alexandria.

Concealed handgun classes offered
Non-profit classes for a concealed handgun permit are scheduled Sept. 15, Oct. 13, Nov. 10, and Dec. 8, at the Masonic Lodge, 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice, according to an announcement from Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The courses include all the requirements needed for application to the state for a carrying a concealed handgun, but does not include the state fee.
The course cost $100 and a spouse may attend for another $80.
Classes start at 7:30 a.m. and include classroom instruction, applications, notary, fingerprints, firing range, a hot lunch, refreshments all day, and a certificate of completion as required by the state.
The course is taught by certified police instructors.
Participants should bring a photo identification, cash or check, handgun and a box of ammunition.

Free child car seat installation
Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laurel Ave., Eunice.
The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.

Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center
Saturday programs at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 W. Park Ave., Eunice, are the Explore & Restore craft workshop for kids, from 10 a.m. to noon; Cajun Conversations meets 1 to 2:30 p.m. to learn and practice conversational Cajun French; Music and dancing kicks off at 2:45 p.m. and ends with the cooking demonstration and sampling at 4 p.m. Admission to the center and programs is free.

VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.

A foundation has been set for the St Landry Parish Veteran Funeral Honor Guard and now it needs donations to become a reality, according to Lincoln “Link” Savoie, coordinator.
