During the shutdown of the federal government due to the lapse of appropriations, national parks will remain as accessible as possible while still following all applicable laws and procedures, according to a National Park Service news release.
For example, trails and open-air memorials at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve sites will remain accessible to visitors, but emergency and rescue services will be limited.
There will be no National Park Service-provided visitor services at Jean Lafitte sites, including public information, visitor centers, restrooms, trash collection, and facilities and roads maintenance. Vehicular traffic in accessible areas will be restricted to protect park resources; areas can be accessed on foot.
New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park is closed for the safety of visitors and park resources.
Because of the federal government shutdown, National Park Service social media and websites are not being monitored or updated and may not reflect current conditions. All park programs at both parks have been canceled.
