Scott Daville, of Eunice, who was shot after confronting a suspected burglar in his pickup truck Thursday morning, died from a single bullet wound, Eunice Police detective Robert Brickley said.
Daville, 56, died at a Lafayette hospital.
“The victim was outside when he noticed a vehicle pulled up in front of his house,” Brickley said. “As he starts looking, he notices somebody was inside of his vehicle. He went to approach. As he approached the vehicle gunshots rang out striking the victim.”
The shooting occurred as Daville was preparing to go to work from his residence in the 500 block of Juanita, he said.
Daville was shot in the torso with a pistol, but police are not releasing any other specifics about the weapon.
“The only information we have at this point is we are looking for three black males,” Brickley said.
The suspects left the scene northbound on Juanita in southwest Eunice in a light-colored four-door car, he said.
The car was possibly gray-colored, he said.
Two other shots were fired, both hitting the ground, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
Anyone with information or surveillance video operating before and after the shooting with something suspicious on it is asked to call Brickley at 337-457-6575.
If anyone sees someone breaking into a vehicle or property they should call police, he said.
“You don’t know what they are capable of,” he said in warning people to avoid directly confronting criminals.
“Someone’s life is not worth material things,” he added.
The fatal shooting is the first since Dec. 23, 2017, when a killing occurred at the Southeast Community Center.
