Neighborhood watch groups in progress

Two neighborhood watch groups are in the process of forming in Eunice, according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot.
“I’m not sure if there are any others,” he said. “But I know there is a lot of talk about trying to get it going in different neighborhoods. People are searching for someone to take the lead,” he said.
The groups are being organized through the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Sgt. Ashley Boudreaux, who was designated as the point person for the neighborhood watch groups, did not return a phone call Friday.
A meeting was held Jan. 24 at the Liberty Theater to offer assistance to people to organize neighborhood watch groups.
About 100 people attended the meeting sparked by the fatal shooting of Scott Daville, 56, on Dec. 27 as he interrupted the burglary of his pickup truck in the 700 block of Juanita.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, said, “The neighborhood watch is very important for you and it helps us.”
There are seven groups in the parish from Krotz Springs to south Opelousas to Grand Prairie, he said.
Fontenot said, “I think people are starting to communicate with each other about things they are seeing, so that’s a good thing and that’s what neighborhood watch is all about.”
Anyone wanting to set up a watch meeting is asked to contact St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Eddie Thibodeaux at 337-457-4115 or Boudreaux at 337-948-6516. Or, contact Eunice Police at 337-457-2626.
