According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, deputies from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office were out looking for underage drinkers and persons that contribute to the underage youngsters from March 1 to 5.
Guidroz stated, “We obtained a grant from the STL Proud Coalition to fund the enforcement action that was taken.”
Deputies worked throughout the parish and cited 25 violators. Two young men were repeat offenders, and were written up twice during the enforcement detail. The deputies wrote three tickets to persons age 16, two tickets to persons age 17, three tickets to persons 18, tens tickets to persons 19, and seven tickets to persons age 20.
Deputies were unable to identify the person(s) purchasing or giving the underage drinkers alcohol. The investigation is ongoing, and if the person(s) are identified as contributors to the youngsters, they will be cited.
Guidroz stated, “The main goal of the detail was to stop underage drinking for their safety as well as the safety of others. We plan to continue these enforcement details throughout the parish in the interest of public safety.”
