K-9 team places 2nd in state competition

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Capt. Lance Guidroz and his K-9 partner “DINO” participated in a statewide narcotics competition and placed second out of 42 teams, according to to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz
The competition on March 1 was sponsored by Dixon Correctional Institution and co-hosted by Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola, Louisiana. K-9 teams from several different agencies around the state participated in this year’s event.
The type of competition showcases not only the K-9 ability but the handler’s skill as well and the working relationship the team has for each other. Numerous hours of training and care go into these high valued tools to fight the drug epidemic in the parish, Guidroz said.
K-9 “DINO” is trained in narcotics detection, article searches, tracking and trailing, apprehension and building searches. Recently the team was used to located over 80 pounds of marijuana.
