State Rep. H. Bernard LeBas, of Ville Platte, announced his candidacy for District 28 of the Louisiana State Senate.
LeBas has represented House District 38 for the past 12 years.
A lifelong resident of Ville Platte, he grew up with four brothers and three sisters. His parents were Ville Platte Mayor Harvey and Myrtle Bordelon LeBas. He is married to Charlotte Demoruelle LeBas and they have five children, Robert, Paul, Nick, Dana and Luke, along with nine grandchildren.
He graduated high school from Sacred Heart in Ville Platte in 1961. LeBas has been a practicing pharmacist for the past 51 years after graduating from University of Louisiana in Monroe in 1968. Together with his children, they own four pharmacies in Evangeline and St. Landry parishes. He is a past president of the Louisiana Pharmaceutical Association.
While serving as state representative since 2008, LeBas served on the Health and Welfare, Agriculture, Appropriation and DOTD committees. LeBas is a member of the House Democratic Caucus, the Rural Caucus, and the Acadiana delegation.
