St. Landry Parish sales tax collections through April are up 2.8 percent compared to the same four months last year.
Total parish sales tax collections through March were $23,610,203 — up $644,706 from the same period in 2018, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.
The parish sales and use tax total includes collections for the parish government, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement, special tax districts and municipalities. The total does not include state collections.
In Eunice, the four-month total was $1,856,058, up 1.1 percent from the same period in 2018.
In Opelousas, the four-month total was $3,383,329, up 0.5 percent from the same period in 2018.
In St. Landry Parish Road District 1, which collects a 2 percent sales tax in unincorporated areas of the parish to fund the Smooth Ride Home program, the four-month tally was $2,157,430, down .2.4 percent from the same period in 2018.
In an April to April comparison:
Eunice sales tax collections of $484,209 were up 15 percent;
Opelousas sales tax collections of $927,019 were up 5.6 percent;
Road District 1 sales tax collections of $561,214 were down 24 percent; and
Parish sales tax collections of $6,311,664 were down 69.5 percent.
The local sales tax rates in Eunice are 2.2 percent city and 3.55 percent parish.
Local sales tax rates in unincorporated St. Landry Parish are 5.55 percent parish tax rates that includes the 2 percent Smooth Ride Home Program tax.
The sales tax numbers include a use tax, which is paid on items used, stored or consumed. The sales tax is collected on a transaction.
