Marks announces for St. Landry Parish president

Kenneth “Ken” Marks is announcing his candidacy for St. Landry Parish president in the Oct. 12 election.
His announcement included the following.
Marks is serving as the Parish Council member representing St. Landry Parish District 6.
Marks served four terms on the Port Barre Town Council elected at large and served as mayor pro tem four different times.
Marks has been married 49 years to Sharon David Marks and they have three children Vickie Breaux (David), Lynn O’ Connor (Mark), Kenneth II (Jessica). The Marks have seven grandchildren.
Marks is lifelong resident of Port Barre and St. Landry Parish.
Marks graduated from Port Barre High and attended USL now ULL in Lafayette majoring in petroleum engineering.
Marks’ professional career consisted of 37 years working for Baker Hughes Inc. where he retired. During his career he trained in technical analysis, problem solving techniques, customer relations and advanced management programs. He attended workshops for the “The Leader In You” and “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” as well as many internal Baker Hughes Inc. management training seminars.
Marks’ civic duties consisted of chairing many committees for civic and community projects. Chartered the Port Barre Booster Club and and was a leader to build the current John R. Dupre Municipal Library in Port Barre. Marks served as Lion’s Club International two-time district governor for the Louisiana Southwest Region, a member of the Opelousas Sunrise Rotary Club, Opelousas Chamber of Commerce and a member of the St. Landry Parish Crime Stoppers Board.
