Opelousas man's bust nets pots, $2,000 cash

St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s deputies seized marijuana, $2,043 and an AK-47 rifle in a drug bust in the 400 block of Ribbon Road, Opelousas on Monday.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz identified the arrested man as Brandon Kyle Thibodeaux, 26.
“While the detectives were taking Thibodeaux into custody, they detected a strong odor of marijuana within the residence,” Guidroz stated in a news release.
Detectives located eight plastic bags containing marijuana, the rifle, drug paraphernalia and the cash, he said.
“According to Thibodeaux’s criminal history, Thibodeaux is a convicted felon and cannot be in possession of any firearm,” Guidroz stated.
Guidroz also reported that there were two minor children and their mother living at the residence.
“A portion of the marijuana located by narcotics detectives was in the same room where the children were sleeping,” he stated.
Thibodeaux was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail. His bail of $86,000 was revoked.
The charges against Thibodeaux are possession with intent to distribute Schedule I drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses, illegal use of a CDS in the presence of persons under 17 years of age, illegal carrying of weapons in the presence of a CDS, possession of a firearm by persons convicted of certain felonies, and  distribution of Schedule I CDS.
