Church history of First United Methodist

The First United Methodist Church in Eunice has been in existence since 1894.
“Since 1894, First Methodist has been a Christian sanctuary for those searching for peace and love through the promises given to us by God through His Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” said the Rev. Regina Hickman, pastor of First United Methodist Church.
Until 1896 the dedicated Methodists met in private homes for Sunday School and worship. In those early days they were pastored by the elderly circuit rider, Rev. W.W. Fraser, who rode from Lake Charles to provide spiritual guidance to the emerging Methodist presence in the Eunice.
On Aug. 6, 1896 C.C. Duson deeded the land at the corner of South Fifth Street and Oak Street to the Methodist Church. All early protestant marriages were recorded at the Methodist church.
Until 1905 the Methodists and Baptists met in the one-room Methodist Church. “Through the contribution of the early Methodists, the church on 5th Street has remained an integral part of the city of Eunice providing Christian support through love and open doors and hearts according the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,” Rev. Hickman stated.
