The 53rd Louisiana Swine Festival is set for the first weekend of November in Basile, but the festival’s pageants will take place Oct. 12 in McFarlain Memorial Gym on the Basile High School campus. The competitions are open to Louisiana residents in the appropriate age groupings.
The festival association is currently seeking contestants in the various pageant age groups. Entry forms are available from any Swine Festival Association member, at Thrifty-Way Pharmacy of Basile, the Basile branch of the Evangeline Parish Library, at the Basile High School library, or at www.louisianaswinefestival.com
The pageants are open to Louisiana residents. The pageants are listed below with their respective age categories and times of competition:
Senior Pageants: The senior queens’ pageants will be held at 4 p.m., Oct. 12 for the crowning of Miss La. Swine Festival (ages 17-23), Teen Miss Swine Festival (ages 15-16), and Ms. Swine Festival (ages 24 and older).
Junior Pageants: The King Porky-Queen Petunia Pageant begins at 12 noon for 6-8 year old boys and girls.
The Junior Deb, Deb Miss, and Junior Teen Miss Pageant begins at 2 p.m. Jr. Deb is for girls ages 9-10, Deb Miss is 11-12, and Jr. Teen Miss is 13-14.
Baby Pageants: The baby pageants are set to start at 9 a.m. Categories include Baby Miss and Baby Mister (0-11 months), Toddler Miss and Toddler Mister (12-23 months), Tiny Miss and Tiny Mister (2-3 years), Petite Miss and Petite Mister (age 4), and Little Miss and Little Mister (age 5).
