New Orleans TV station to visit Zydeco Capital Jam

Terry Domingue, book signing coming to St. Landry Visitor Center

Terry Domingue, leader of Terry and the Zydeco Bad Boys, heads the next Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 12 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, north of Opelousas. A self-taught accordionist since the age of 8, Domingue specializes in traditional zydeco and often sings in Creole French.
Domingue leads the jam with special guests from New Orleans scheduled to attend. Dave McNamara, host of “Heart of Louisiana” features on WVUE Fox 8 TV, will be on hand to produce a segment on the zydeco jam.
McNamara’s features highlight music, food, art, history and culture found throughout the state. Besides New Orleans, McNamara’s stories also air on TV stations in Baton Rouge (WAFB), Shreveport (KSLA), Lake Charles (KPLC), Alexandria (KALB) and Monroe (KNOE).
“We have been dancing a two-step ever since Dave called and asked about doing a story on the zydeco jam,” said Herman Fuselier, executive director of the St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission. “Locals and people from all over the world have been coming to the jam since we started in February.
“Dave’s great segments will help spread the word even more.”
The Zydeco Capital Jam is open to all musicians, fans and dancers.
In other upcoming events, swamp pop legend Warren Storm and singer/songwriter Yvette Landry at St. Landry Sounds, a music and conversation series, at 2 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Visitor Center. Storm and Landry will sign copies of the new book and the companion CD, “Taking the World by Storm.”
