Horace Trahan jam at visitor center
Accordionist, songwriter and singer Horace Trahan leads the next Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 9 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, north of Opelousas.
Trahan has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe while maintaining a strong following in his native south Louisiana.
“This is a special treat for musicians and fans to be able to jam with Horace Trahan,” Herman Fuselier, executive director of the St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission, said. “Horace pours so much soul into his live shows that many have become legendary.
“Barry Ancelet wrote how people in the audience cried and gave Horace a standing ovation when he first performed at the Liberty Theater in Eunice.”

Veterans Day program set
Veterans Day in Eunice will be celebrated on Nov. 11, at the VFW Post 8971 located at U.S. 190 east.
The outdoor program, weather permitting, will begin at 11 a.m. Gumbo will be served.
All veterans and their families are invited to attend. There will be an official flag burning.
Guest speakers will be state Rep. Phillip DeVillier and VFW Post 8971 Commander Don Reber.
The Eunice Junior High Band will be performing. Boy Scouts troops will be in attendance as well.
Highland ‘Proud to Be A Bobcat’ yard sign fundraiser set
Highland Elementary is currently having a school-wide fundraiser “Proud to Be a Bobcat” Yard signs.
The cost is $15 per sign, and to purchase, contact any Highland Elementary faculty or student or come by the school.
Mt. Olive Cemetery volunteers needed
Families of the Mount Olive Cemetery, located at 1199 E. Ardoin (on Old Crowley Road), are in dire need of volunteers for lawn maintenance, grass mowing, and up keep of the cemetery. It is a public cemetery, established many years ago.
Family members of families buried at this cemetery are asked to help in the upkeep.

FBC host La. Baptist Women Choir
First Baptist Church of Eunice will host the Louisiana Baptist Singing Women at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14.
The Louisiana Baptist Singing Women is an audition choir made up of women who are active in church choirs or music/worship programs in Southern Baptist Churches all over the state.

BBQ fundraiser sale set Nov. 9
The Eunice United Pentecostal Church will have a BBQ dinner sale from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.
The dinner will include a half BBQ chicken or BBQ pork steak, your choice with all the sides. A donation of $10 will be accepted.

The St. Louis Cemetery, located at the corner of St. Louis Road and Sittig in Eunice is seeking donations for the upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery. The cemetery strictly operates by donations and volunteers. The cemetery is not a private one.

‘Nutcracker’ performances slated

LSUE Testing Center offers HiSET exam
The Testing Center on the LSU Eunice campus has expanded its offerings after being named a HiSET (GED) testing site.
The HiSET exam is a test used to measure high school equivalency skills. It is designed for out-of-school youth and adults without a high school diploma.
The LSUE Testing Center added HiSET and CLEP to its lineup of exams that it proctors. LSUE also offers Accuplacer, Peregrine, TEAS, and proctored exams for LSUE and non-LSUE college students.
The Center is open Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and is located on the first floor of the LSUE LeDoux Library.

Hour of Prayer at New Zion Baptist Church

Free child car seat installation
Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laurel Ave., Eunice.
The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.
VFW bingo held Thursdays, Sundays
The VFW Post 8971 holds bingo for the public at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday at the VFW Hall located on U.S. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community.
