Getting the mats ready. Workers unload concrete mats next to the gully at 12th & Vine on Monday. The mats, weighing several thousand pounds each will be used by the city in an experimental anti-erosion program. The city has purchased 90 mats enough to do five demonstration sites.
Quoth the poet...The Louisiana Review, LSUE’s art and literature journal, held its final fictio/poetry reading Thursday at Cafe Mosaic. LSUE Professor Michael Alleman, above, was one of the featured readers, along with professors Jude Meche and Diane Langlois. Their readings were following by a several open-mike readers and performers.
Math Wizzards at Eunice Elementary. Eunice Elementary’s teachers, kindergarten through fourth grade, selected Math Wizards from their class. Each teacher chose one boy and one girl from their class who excelled in Math by picking up grades and studying hard in the subject. Santa’s Secret Shop at Glendale Elementary. Glendale Elementary School is participating in Santa’s Secret Shop program at their school. The program allows children to experience the joy of choosing their own special holiday gifts for family and friends. Dustin Aguillard, a fourth grader at Glendale, looks over a possible purchase with volunteer parent Amanda Myers. Each child has a chosen list of items with prices and a sealed envelope of money given by their parents to purchase items.
She made a list; he’s checking it twice. Gracie Spaetgens sits on Mrs. Claus’ lap while she waits for Santa to read her Christmas wish list following the couple’s arrival in Eunice on Thursday evening. Her younger sister Maddelyn was next in line with her wish list.
Shopping Spree winner. Bonnie Meaux of Eunice is the winner of the Noel on the Prairie Shopping Spree. She works at Picou’s Drug Store.
The spree includes gift certificates from the participating merchants in the annual November holiday shopping event. Meaux’s name was drawn from entries left by shoppers at all the outlets on the Noel circuit.
Parish tourney tips off Wednesday. Eunice’s D’ondrick Johnson (30) shown here against Welsh, and the Bobcats will take on Beau Chene at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in the St. Landry Parish basketball tournament held at Northwest High in Praire Ronde.
First buck for Turk. Will Turk, son of Dr. Joe and Edie Turk, shot his first 4-poing buck on the family’s ranch in West Texas on Saturday, Nov. 28.
Food Bank Food Drive tops last year by 3,000 pounds. Linus Cormier, Eunice Food Bank volunteer, weighs items during Eunice Food Bank Food Drive Monday. A total of six tons was collected. Food Drive continues through Jan. 4. Laura Pearson, Eunice Food Bank volunteer, holds onto boxes of candy canes during Monday’s annual Food Drive. She was one of many volunteers who helped out with sorting and boxing food items.
Seniors enjoy Christmas luncheon. The annual Seniors Christmas luncheon was held Wednesday at the Southeast Center. Junior Ardoin and Lou Melancon enjoy the Seniors Christmas Luncheon held Wednesday at the Southeast Center.
