Active election year ahead

This year promises to be an active one politically from the local to national level.
Locally, the announcement by St. Landry Parish District Attorney Earl Taylor that he would be stepping down in February opened the race for that office.
The primary election for that office and others is scheduled Nov. 3 with a Dec. 5 general election.
On the national scene, the nation will have an election for president and vice president. Incumbents Donald Trump and Mike Pence are expected to seek re-election.
Voters selection electors in those elections.
The seat held by U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, first elected in 2014, is or re-election. Senators are elected to six-year terms.
District 4 U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson, R-Benton’s seat for a two-year term is up for election on Nov. 3. If he runs again, Johnson, a Republican from Benton, would be seeking a third term.
U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins’s 3rd District seat is also up for re-election November. Higgins, a Republican from Port Barre, would be seeking a third term if he runs again.
Also on the local ballot are elections for district judge, justices of the peace, constables, city court judges and city court marshals.
Elections for party officials includes a primary on April 4 and general on May 9.
