Sheriff: Eunice men had assault rifle at soccer game

Body

Two Eunice men are charged with being armed with an assault rifle at a Beau Chene soccer game on Tuesday, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
“An alert student observed two males on the campus parking lot displaying what was later learned to be an AK 5.56 semi-automatic rifle,” Guidroz stated. “The student acted quickly and reported the incident to a school coach. The two males were seen pointing the rifle at several people before leaving the campus.”
Guidroz added, “Another unnamed individual attending the soccer event was walking to her vehicle when she heard several people having a verbal altercation. One of the male subjects threatened to discharge the rifle in the parking lot during the school event. When the subject arrived at his vehicle, he allegedly grabbed the rifle and pointed it towards several students who were in the parking lot and then pointed it in the air.”
A third person said two males were in a white GMC truck and were talking to him but he could not understand what they were saying, Guidroz stated.
“The back-seat passenger in the truck pointed a black assault rifle in his direction as the vehicle drove away,” he stated.
Guidroz said detectives learned the names of the subjects with the rifle were Julian Ledezma and Alonso Ledezma.
Julian Ledezma told detectives and Alonso Ledezma went to the soccer game at Beau Chene and when Julian opened the back passenger door of the truck, Alonso’s AR 5.56 fell out of the truck, Guidroz stated.
The news release stated Julian Ledezma picked the gun up off the ground and placed it back in the truck and they left the school grounds.
Alonso Ledezma II, 18, of the 200 block of Grand Street, Eunice is charged with Carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student or non-student on school property at school sponsored functions or in a firearm-free zone. Bail was set at $3,500.
Julian Ledezma, 17, of the 200 block of Grand Street, Eunice, is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, and carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student or non-student on school property at school sponsored functions or in a firearm-free zone. Bail was set at $8,500.
Guidroz stated, “Thanks to the quick response by the principal of Beau Chene High School, the alert student, the unnamed coach, the quick response by our Juvenile Detective Division, and Detective Chasity Carriere, another dangerous weapon was taken off the streets of St. Landry Parish. Additionally, our investigation continues to determine whether the aforementioned individuals arrested are part of any gang activity.”
