Hikeam O. Wilson, 18, has been indicted for the first-degree murder of Scott Daville in December 2018.
The St. Landry Parish Grand Jury indictment was returned Feb. 20 before 27th Judicial District Court, Judge A. Gerard Caswell.
Wilson, of the 1900 block of Medora Street, Lake Charles, was arrested in December 2019 .
A first-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence, or the death penalty.
Daville, 56, was shot after confronting a suspected burglar in his pickup truck around 5:30 a.m. at his residence in the 500 block of Juanita on Dec. 27, 2018.
Wilson was 16 years old when the shooting occurred.
Daville died at a Lafayette hospital from a single bullet wound to his torso.
According to Eunice Police after the shooting, Daville was outside when he noticed a vehicle pulled up in front of his house.
Eunice detective Robert Brickley said, “As he starts looking, he notices somebody was inside of his vehicle. He went o approach. As he approached the vehicle, gunshots rang out striking the victim.”
After Wilson’s arrest, Police Chief Randy Fontenot said he and Brickley, “thank the Daville family for their patience during this long investigation. Rather than rush to make an arrest, police needed their time in building a good solid foundation in this case.”
The crime sparked the restart of a Neighborhood Watch program in Eunice.
