An Evangeline Parish man said he was shot in the back as he drove on La. 29 by another man who followed him from his home.
The victim called and reported his wound and pulled over on La. 29 near Rougeau Road on Tuesday.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said in a news release that the victim said he was followed by a Christopher Stephen Mayeaux, 31, who was in a white car.
The victim was taken to Lafayette General Hospital for treatment.
Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s detectives and St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s deputies went to Mayeaux’s residence located in Evangeline Parish in an attempt to speak with him in regards to the investigation.
“Mr. Mayeaux would not exit his residence nor would he comply with any verbal instruction by law enforcement officers at the scene. A warrant was then issued for his arrest,” Guidroz said.
On Wednesday, Mayeaux was arrested at a residnece in the 100 block of Cotton Gin Road, Ville Platte.
St. Landry Parish detectives were joined by Evangeline Parish and Ville Platte City Marshal’s deputies in making the arrest.
Mayeaux was taken to the St. Landry Parish Jail, where he was booked on the charges of attempted second degree murder and carrying of a firearm by convicted felon.
Mayeaux’s bail was set at $107,500.
